In case you missed the first post [which is directly below this one for those of you who hate having to scroll], I’m 21 years old and from a very small town in Florida. I just finished undergrad and am off to NYC to begin law school; I’ve always known I wanted to venture off to a big city and get a fresh new start far away from this state. I know it sounds like the beginning to some cheesy Lifetime movie, but Sally Fields is too old to play me so I think I’m out of a tv-movie deal.
I grew up riding horses to my friend’s houses and even up to the local store to grab lunch during the day. The biggest city I’ve ever lived in’s population probably isn’t big enough to qualify for an average polling survey, but for what ever reason I thought it would be a great idea to move to New York [a state where I don’t know a soul] to begin the hardest three years of my life while I’m in law school. Basically, my half of this blog is going to end up including a lot of accidents, mistakes, and mind-blowing screw ups while I try not to die in the Big Apple. If it helps to make this seem less like every other “small town girl tries to make it big” kind of story, I come from a very loud and opinionated family full of Persians and Jews - different sides. For those of you who know anything about the “war in the Middle East”, just imagine trying to keep peace between a Jewish mother and a Persian father. With my sister’s wedding coming up in two months and the entire family [who can’t stand to speak to one another] converging in Florida [a pretty conservative state], I can only hope we don’t end up burning the entire city to the ground [that should be a fantastic blog update].
I promise to try to be entertaining while I tell about whatever is going on in my life, but more than anything I promise that all of my stories will be absolutely true. The only things I will change will be the names of the people involved so that we can all maintain some amount of dignity =]
Anyways, to cut this first blog off, my official countdown to moving to NYC has begun: 24 days until I fly up. All of my possessions have to fit into a couple of suitcases, but I’m sure I can fill an entirely new post simply on how to fit everything I own into 3 suitcases that each weigh under 50 lbs. [yay airport regulations!]
P.S. Please feel free to ask any question you like. Rachel and I aren’t sure what you guys care to hear about or think of us, so let us know!
Our So Called Lives is run by two best friends who you can feel free to call Robin and Rachel. They’re not our real names [so we can keep some amount of anonymity], but we put some serious thought into picking them.
About Robin: I’m a 21 [soon to be 22] year old from Florida who’s about to move to New York City for law school. I’ve always put work, school and extracurriculars above just about everything else in my life. I’d like to think I have a good sense of humor, I certainly curse enough, I love watching/playing all kinds of sports, and being from the south, I know how to use a gun. Actually, just short of being from Canada and appearing on the news as a reporter, I pretty much am Robin Scherbatsky.
About Rachel: I am a 32 year old trapped in a 22 year old’s body. My job requires me to be a nomad, traveling from one college town to another. I love to watch “bad” tv, read The Economist, Cosmo, and self-help books, and go shopping. I love fashion, and one day when I grow up I want to work for Kate Spade. I am very similar to Rachel Green… I just hope I don’t get knocked up with my ex-boyfriend’s baby.
